除非是屬於特殊貢獻者以外，否則所有是透過歸化的方式取得的中華民國國籍必須放棄之前所具有的國籍，除非你能證明你本來就是無國籍或者是因不可抗力因素無法放棄原先的國籍（譬如拒絕讓你退出國籍）。只不過這裏有法律盲點——理論上具有中華民國國籍者須得到內政部批准後才得以喪失國籍，然而「大陸人民」根據下位法的行政措施（下位法衝撞上位法）反倒會因為歸化他國國籍並在海外居住4年以上而自動轉換為「外國人」身份，之後可透過外國人的身份申請歸化入籍，這在法理上顯然站不住腳，除非台灣徹底與中華民國切割以外否則永遠都會存在這樣的法理炸彈。

不过台湾好像承认双国籍吧

台灣確實是民間俗稱的「承認本國國民可以具有雙重國籍」的地區（對很多人來説基本都是以先兼具本國國籍後以自己的意願後天取得的繼有國籍的角度來看的，然而能導致雙重國籍狀態不只有這一形式），然而這論述在嚴格意義上算不上「正確」——國際法體系中對「承認」有明確的定義，絕非民間長期以來所認為的那個意思。 其説法具體體現在台灣並不限制已經具有本國國籍的國民的雙重國籍狀態，無論他們是因先天性（跨國婚姻、出生在外國等出生就自動具有外國國籍）或者後天性造成的雙重國籍狀態（憑藉自己的意願申請歸化外國國籍等）。但卻要求歸化中華民國國籍人不得因取得中華民國國籍而導致處於雙重國籍狀態（即原本只有A籍，後來因為入籍兼具了A籍和中華民國國籍）。

台湾和德国双户口

能導致這樣的狀態出現，那一般而言理應屬於出生就自動取得了德國國籍，否則透過歸化的方式取得德國國籍的非歐盟公民必須放棄其原有國籍。如果他是因出生地主義（在德出生且父母均不是德國國民）而具有的德國國籍並長期在外國居住，且在21歲時兼具外國國籍的話，那麼他根據德國法律他必須向德國當局進行「選擇」國籍。
