英语里的句子可以很短的，没必要用这样的句式把两句连成一句话。
另外如果只是表意的话，第一句可以是 He failed his math exam 3 days ago. His make-up exam was two days after 或者 He attended the make-up exam two days after。你想表达的就是补考日子在哪天的事实（或者这个人在哪天参加了考试的事实），无需用连句句式暗示因果关系
