You don’t understand how professional this organized crime issue is.

Step one: a consumer places an order in Africa for a specific model of car. Step two: the importer places an other with an organized crime syndicate Step three: the organized crime syndicate assigns a theft team to find the appropriate car in Canada. Car is usually found in a parking lot with tracker placement. Step four: at night theft team goes to location of car (if accessible) and very quickly steals it. They are professionals, and successful theft is likely. Disabling of local trackers, use of keyless entry and start to steal the car is common. Step five: the car is loaded into a cargo container and is now untraceable. Step six: the container is shipped out with fake docs through Montreal port or Vancouver port, both of which are run by organized crime Step seven: car goes to Africa, to importer and then to consumer.

There is no enforcement currently capable of managing this degree of organization and co-opting of institutions. The police did bust one gang of thieves, but there will be many more.

To break this you would need a big overhaul of police enforcement and the judicial system overall, and you would need to break criminal hold of ports, and you would need to be far more thoughtful about who you let stay in the country.

As for how to prevent. First own an older car less likely to be stolen. Second do not get remote entry and start which is a huge security risk. Can try to install trackers but it won’t matter
