Misleading. It is not the Greens that won this election, but Cem Özdemir. He could credibly present himself as successor to well regarded Kretschmann, as a politician with strong local links and accent without excessive ideological zeal, so typical of Green party leaders. Özdemir in fact made sure that unpresentable Green party leadership did not take part in his campaign. At the federal level the Greens have been deservedly stuck at 11 - 12% for some time now.The election also shows the relentless destruction of the Social Democrats as political force and a clear majority for center/right (CDU + AfD). It is a pity that the political system cannot find a way to make this majority work
