( I mean owning a house, a car, and taking two vacations a year. I've been told that while a middle-class lifestyle is achievable in China, it's still incredibly difficult for ordinary people; in contrast, it's much easier to achieve in Japan.
What does modern Japan offer that modern China lacks? Why choose to leave at the peak of society? Are these people politically motivated, or is it simply impossible for them to enter the middle class and enjoy the benefits of Chinese society, such as owning a house, a car, or supporting a family? Political freedom doesn't mean much if you're starving. I'd rather have a house, a car, and one or two vacations a year than political freedom, you know what I mean?
That's what I'm asking. The situation isn't like it was fifty years ago; China is still poor and following outdated communist economic policies.
What's preventing them from starting their own companies and running their own businesses in China? Isn't China the country best positioned to do this? After all, it has such a massive manufacturing sector. Or is the opportunity for independent development so limited to a select few that the better option is to give it up and become a blue-collar worker in Japan or in other countries? )

olc2y2y· ↗I believe that those who have fled the country may have a deeper understanding of the relationship between political freedom and economic development than the average foreigner, because they have firsthand experience of how volatile policies, opaque regulations, and a strong desire for control can stifle creativity. Small entrepreneurs struggle to secure sufficient investment when entering the market (due to the banking system and state-owned enterprises’ tight control over capital), and they have little chance to start over after failure (as the consequences of bankruptcy are severe). Yet a government with such strong control does not guarantee your basic rights; the nightmare of the last century has never truly receded—it is drawing ever closer.

That would only make sense if you work for large MNC or being an state employee, any other work would make sure you don't have time for any kind of vacation
